How a job runs
It starts with a visit. Until someone has opened the consumer unit and seen what runs inside the walls, nobody can tell you honestly what the work will cost.

You describe the project or the fault. We tell you straight away whether it calls for an emergency repair, a targeted fix or a full installation.

We come and look
On site we open the consumer unit and work out what is sound and what is not. This is where we separate what must be redone from what can stay.

Work starts within one to two weeks
That is our usual lead time for planned work. Anything urgent goes through emergency call-out instead and does not wait for this schedule.

Replacing a consumer unit means a few hours without power, restored the same evening. For heavy rewiring, it is best to move out while the work is on.

Not every job needs it. When yours does, we tell you at the visit and handle the paperwork.
What drives the price
We do not publish rates: two identical-looking houses can produce very different quotes. Here is what actually makes the difference, so you know what to expect before we even visit.
The state of the existing installation
By far the biggest factor. A fuse board, no earth, or conduit that can no longer be reused changes the scale of the job entirely. An installation that is merely old but sound, on the other hand, can often be brought up to standard in stages.
Chasing into walls, or surface-mounted
Burying cable in the walls costs considerably more than running it on the surface or in trunking: the walls have to be cut, filled and made good again. This is usually where two quotes diverge — and the choice is yours.
How many new points you need
Every extra socket, switch or light means more cable to run and more time on site. Across a whole house it adds up.
Access and layout
An accessible loft or a crawlable underfloor void saves hours. An upper floor with no route through, a stone wall, or a house lived in during the work costs them.
Common questions
- Do I have to rewire the whole house?
- This is the most common worry, and the answer is rarely yes. An old installation is not dangerous simply because it is old. What matters is whether there is an earth, what condition the consumer unit is in, and how the circuits have held up. A targeted safety upgrade is often enough, at a fraction of the cost of a full rewire. We will tell you plainly after the visit, including when that answer costs us the job.
- How do I know if my installation is compliant?
- Two things get confused here. NF C 15-100 compliance applies to new or completely rewired installations. A safety upgrade targets the genuinely dangerous parts of an existing one: no earth, missing residual current protection, ageing equipment. They carry different obligations and very different costs. An inspection report flags faults, but it does not tell you what to do about them or what it will cost — that is what our visit is for.
- Will I be left without power?
- For a consumer unit replacement, the outage lasts a few hours and power is back the same evening. For a full rewire it depends on how the cable is run. Surface-mounted work can be lived through. For heavy work with chased walls we will advise you to move out — the dust and open circuits make daily life difficult.
- Why is the quote more than the cost of the materials?
- Because cable and a consumer unit are only part of the job. For concealed wiring the walls have to be chased, conduit run, holes filled and finishes made good again. That trailing work is usually where most of the time goes. It is also why running cable on the surface changes the total so much.
- Who handles the Consuel paperwork?
- Not every job requires a Consuel certificate. Where it is mandatory — typically new build or a complete rewire — we take care of it. We tell you at the visit, so you know where you stand before signing anything.
- How soon can you start?
- Allow one to two weeks between first contact and the start of planned work, and 48 hours to receive the quote after our visit. A fault or an immediate danger does not follow that schedule: that is an emergency call-out and we treat it as one.

Complete bathroom
Bathroom wiring follows particular rules in wet zones. When the project covers the whole room, we take on the job end to end.
Plumbing
Water heaters, heated towel rails, pumps: plenty of equipment needs both trades. We cover both, so there is no coordination left to you.
Emergency call-out
A power cut, a breaker that keeps tripping, a burning smell: that is not planned work. We handle it as an emergency.
